200 lecturers from the University of Nairobi will be participating in the PedaL Online training workshop in May 2021. The training was officially launched on May 5th 2021 by Prof. Julius Ogeng’o who encourage the 200 participating lecturers to embrace the practical lessons in PedaL as the University has resolved to adapt Asynchronous teaching and learning based on the lessons we have learnt through this training. Ag. Executive Director/ Director, Higher Education at the Partnership for Social and Governance Research (PASGR) Dr. Beatrice Muganda made an elaborate presentation on the PedaL program and encouraged participants to interact with the modules and complete the 3 week training.
The overall objective of the PedaL Online training workshop is to enhance the awareness and build the skills of university academic teaching staff to deliver online and blended courses. This objective is further broken down to four specific objectives as highlighted below:
- To immerse lecturers in the practical application of a variety of toolsets, digital resources and strategies for course planning, design as well as creative facilitation and innovative assessment;
- To strengthen the capacity of lecturers in drawing on technology and pedagogy to broaden the learning space and to create and deliver exceptional online learning moments;
- To enhance the confidence and inculcate values and attitudes that encourage lecturers to adapt innovative pedagogy for online and blended modes; and,
- To motivate and sustain active and inclusive online communities of lecturers that promote continuous learning in and outside classroom walls.
The PedaL training is organized around the 3 core modules of PedaL Online: Course Design; Course Facilitation; and Innovative Assessment. Each module has a complementing asynchronous and synchronous components in its delivery. A bulk of the learning content and activities will be done on PedaL’s Moodle learning management system, while key lessons will be reinforced in live Zoom sessions.
