Research Week 2019: 2nd Annual International Conference on Research and Innovation in Education

The College of Education and External Studies hosted the 2nd Annual International Conference on Research and Innovation in Education at Kikuyu Campus on the 23rd & 24th October 2019. The conference aimed to bring together teacher educators, educational researchers, policy makers, teachers and practitioners from Africa and beyond to discuss and identify key elements that contribute to strengthening teacher education, quality and professionalism of teachers in education sector.  This year; the theme of the conference was “Rethinking teacher education and Management in the 21st century and beyond.”

The College of Education and External Studies hosted the 2nd Annual International Conference on Research and Innovation in Education at Kikuyu Campus on the 23rd & 24th October 2019. The conference aimed to bring together teacher educators, educational researchers, policy makers, teachers and practitioners from Africa and beyond to discuss and identify key elements that contribute to strengthening teacher education, quality and professionalism of teachers in education sector.  This year; the theme of the conference was “Rethinking teacher education and Management in the 21st century and beyond.”

During the 2 day conference about 45 papers were presented by delegates from Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana. The papers were grouped into sub themes namely; Rethinking Teacher training in the 21st century and Beyond:  Physical Education and Adult Education; Rethinking teacher Education policies in the 21st century: Access & Participation & Performance Appraisal Policy and Rethinking pedagogical and andragogical approaches in tertiary education.

The major highlights of the conference were:

  • Over 45 paper presentations by delegates from Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana
  • Keynote address by Prof. Okwach Ambagi
  • Panel discussion session by representatives from the Teacher Service Commission, Kenya National Union of Teachers and University Academic Staff Union.
  • Presentations by a representative from Technical Vocational Education and Training sector.

The Conference was officiated by Prof. Rose Nyikal representing the Deputy Vice Chancellor; Research, Production and Extension and College Principal, Prof.Isaac Jumba.
